The Female Orphan School, Rydalmere, was established between 1813 and 1818 and is the earliest three storey brick public building erected in Australia. St Hilliers,
with its extensive heritage expertise, won the contract to restore and adapt
the building as a multifunctional and communal facility for the University of Western Sydney, Nepean. St Hilliers project team worked to a Conservation Management Plan that was endorsed by the Australian Heritage Commission and the Heritage Council of NSW. The services of qualified tradespeople with experience in traditional building construction, repair and maintenance were enlisted to deliver this culturally significant project. Many of the building‚Äö?Ñ?¥s existing problems stemmed from its considerable age and the compounding problems following from a lack of maintenance and repairs over the last decade.
